Islands Close to Phuket

Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow’s the future, but today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present; time is clearly precious and what better way to spend it than to explore some of the great tropical Islands less than an hour away by boat from Royal Phuket Marina.

There is Koh Rang Yai Island just a mile from the Marina, one of the closest islands to Phuket with over 1 kilometer of unspoiled sandy beach on its west side, and a great mini lagoon on its east side; perfect for snorkeling and experiencing some of the rich Andaman Seas aquatic eco system.

Attractions include a pearl farm, football pitch, bike hire and strangely enough a putting green, but it remains as close to unspoiled as you can get in this part of the world. And you can even camp overnight if you so wished.

Just a little bit further but still less than an hour

Heading 20 miles North East from the Marina you will find the many Islands in the Ao Phang Nga National Marine Park, which covers over 400 square kilometers and has Thailand’s largest remaining preserve of mangrove forest.

What can I do in Ao Phang Nga National Marine Park?

You will find a host of options and places to explore with you boat, you could visit the famous James Bond (Koh Phing Kan)  Island and its majestic sheer limestone  formations, snorkel and experience the rich array of the Andaman Aquatic eco system, although you have 42 Islands to choose from! Like the Hong Islands which are remnants of a collapsed cave system, and has a stunning lagoon that can be accessed via a stunning passage flanked by high cliffs.

If you’re a bird lover then an early morning trip to the mangrove canals will be rewarded with abundant bird life, including hornbills, kingfishers and blue winged leaf birds among the 120 species to be found here.

As a private boat owner you have much more choice and freedom than taking a package tour, you’re the captain and itinerary is set by you and your tastes.
