The history of the collection originates from the grandfather of today’s owner of the collection Oleg Tarakhnov, whose family roots come from the ancient royal dynasty of Tarkhan-Mouravi.
Tarhan-Mouravi is a Georgian princely family belonging to the highest feudal caste of Georgia – the Didebul (literally great, the same as the duke in Germany or the specific prince in ancient Russia). Didebul were actually sovereigns in their principalities.
